What Is Eco-Friendly Champagne Glitter?

There is no doubt that when you use champagne glitter on your face, nails, or hair, you feel kind of luxurious and fancy. And that’s perfectly ok! Chunky glitter mix is supposed to make you feel that way. However, you may not realize that you could be contributing to the pollution of the planet!

Glitter is a synonym for sparkle, shimmer, and fun. This little sparkly buddy may seem quite harmless, but being so small, it translates into a bazillion of tiny plastic particles scattered in the ocean. Not a pretty picture!

But don’t worry! Now there are new biodegradable and eco-friendly glitter options for you to keep shining while “being green” at the same time. So, pop up the champagne and let’s keep the celebrations going because bioglitter is here to stay for a long time.

Is Calling Glitter a Sparkling Nightmare Going Too Far?

Regular glitter is considered a microplastic due to its size. And just as sand annoyingly gets everywhere and right into the most unusual places when you go to the beach, the same happens with glitter when it arrives at the oceans. It pollutes everything!

Glitter is essentially made of tiny bits of waste that can even end up in the gastrointestinal system of fish and humans. And the problem is that microplastics have the real and scary potential to affect marine ecosystems by blocking the digestive tracts of sea creatures and making them starve to death.

So, microplastic pollution is a major global concern causing absolute mayhem in our oceans. However, as big and scary as it may sound, this problem has an easy fix: If we don’t want plastic in our oceans, we must stop using it!

Although it is very hard to imagine a world without plastic, the US government has already banned the use of microbeads in cosmetics (since January 2018). So it is only a matter of time before the use of regular glitter is prohibited, and with good reason.

You Don’t Have to Give Up Glitter, Just Try Bioglitter

We know that as guilty as you may feel about the prospect of innocent baby dolphins eventually dying at your glitter filled hands, you probably won’t stop using it. Sad, but true. However, we have the perfect solution for you: Just replace standard plastic glitter with biodegradable glitter!

Bioglitter is an environmentally friendly alternative made of cellulose from hardwoods of eucalyptus, not plastic. Also, it is not toxic; it doesn’t contain any heavy metals, is not GMO (it is produced without genetic engineering), and is cruelty-free and allergens-free.

On top of everything, this eco-friendly option is completely naturally biodegradable, which means that as soon as it touches the natural environment, it will start to degrade with the help of bacteria, water, and high temperatures. In that way, you can have the glitter without the litter! (I’m sure that Flipper would be very happy).

New call-to-action

Not Everything That Says “Biodegradable” Is Truly Eco-Friendly

You have to watch out for fake biodegradable advertised glitters! With the increased awareness about microplastic pollution, many companies are taking advantage of this “Eco-Trend” and making false claims.

Some options like compostable and PLA glitter are said to be biodegradable when in fact, they are not. This is very dangerous because you might be washing off the glitter on your sink or putting it in your garbage, confident that it will biodegrade in nature when in reality, you are just part of the problem.

For a glitter to be deemed naturally biodegradable, several things should be considered:

  • The glitter must meet the freshwater test (like our Bioglitter does).

  • The company must show the results of the test that proves its biodegradability in nature. If they don’t, they most probably are trying to greenwash you into believing their product is eco-friendly. Don’t be fooled!

  • It must be naturally biodegradable, aka under natural conditions. Compostable glitter, for example, needs special facilities with precise conditions of temperature, moistures, airflow, and bacteria for the glitter to degrade, which is virtually impossible in real nature! Also, you should first recollect every tiny bit of glitter before taking it to the compost facilities, which is very unrealistic.

Bioglitter™ is scientifically proven to biodegrade in 90% in natural environments, turning into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass, in about four weeks, depending on the environmental conditions. So Bioglitter™ really is the eco-friendly solution to your glitter looks!

Bioglitter™ Is Not Synonym of Less Shimmer

Just because it is environmentally friendly, it doesn’t mean that you get less spark. Actually, our eco-glitter is as sparkly and shimmery as its ugly cousin, polyester glitter.

Also, our Bioglitter™ is 40% softer than regular plastic glitter, and it comes in a variety of sizes and colors. You can choose from a shimmery powder to a chunky glitter mix of sparkly hexagons to adorn all your glitter makeups. So put on some champagne glitter and sip a glass of bubbly because we will keep sparkling for years to come!
