How do you make glitter slime?

When it comes to kids’ crafts, we have to pick something they really like and have fun with. Homemade slime is one of the favorite ideas! It is so easy, quick, fun and not an expensive thing to do. You can add your personal touch with colors and make it even shinier with glitter.

Kids love to make arts and crafts

Kids like almost any creative activity you do with them. Painting, building and mixing, even more, if it involucrate unique textures like slime. They love squishing, poking and stretching slime.

The best part is that the materials we need to create slime are really inexpensive. And you can vary adding colors. It is a fun craft to do as an indoor activity. It will keep kids entirely focused on the mixing, expecting to see the results and play. They can’t get enough of it!

Something that makes it better for kids is mixing some non-plastic glitter to it. Kids love seeing the shiny look that it gets. The ideal would be to use biodegradable glitter instead of plastic glitter. This way, parents can also rest assured that the glitter they are adding is not toxic for their children.

What are the best biodegradable glitter ingredients?

Regular glitter can be tricky when companies claim it to be biodegradable or compostable. The best way to reassure they are actually eco-friendly and human safe is through certificates that prove it coupled with a description of the ingredients that compose it.

Luckily, a company took care of the microplastic problem and toxic content that regular plastic glitter created. Making an ecofriendly glitter based on plants cellulose, and that’s how Bioglitter was born. There are three different types of glitter for different applications:

  • Bioglitter Pure: 100% plastic-free glitter. Perfect for skincare products, certified to use on cosmetics, the favorite to create the best eyeshadow glitter makeup, nails, and more.

  • Bioglitter Sparkle: with the same functions as the pure, but with a more shiny finish, and more colors.

And the hero product for our slime recipe:

  • Bioglitter Deco: the perfect one for any type of arts and crafts. It is safe to use on children’s toys and clothing.

The three different collections are:

  • Non-toxic (do no contain heavy metals)

  • Biodegradable in nature

  • CMR-free, cruelty-free, GMO-free and allergen-free.

It is definitely the best option for kids to use.

New call-to-action

Prepare the best glitter slime

You only need four (4) low-cost ingredients to achieve it:

  • 6fl oz School Glue

  • 1 ¼ tbsp of contact lens saline solution

  • ½ tbsp of baking soda

  • 1 tbsp of Today Glitter’s Biodegradable Glitter (or as much as you like)

  • Optional: A few drops as desired of Food Coloring

Make sure you cover the table with a plastic tablecloth, so you can clean any residue easier. Let’s do it!

    1. Mix glue and food coloring in a bowl. Mix and stir it well until homogenous.

    2. Add in the baking soda. Stir until thoroughly combined.

    3. Incorporate the saline solution. Mix it until it is combined. If it feels too sticky, you can add an extra ½ tablespoon of solution. This gives the texture; the more you add, the thicker it gets, the less solution means slimier consistency.

    4. Add your favorite color of biodegradable glitter. Now it is time to use your hands and mix until everything is together.

When the kids are not playing with it,  you can store it in a zip-top bag or a lidded container.

Tips for making slime:

  • When using colorants, make sure to blend it well before adding the contact solution. When it starts to thicken it is harder to mix.

  • Slime is better to play on a plastic tablecloth or placemat.

  • The recipe makes about a cup of slime. You can double the quantities to make more slime or different colors.

  • Put your hair in a ponytail to avoid getting slime on it. In case it happens, you can rub coconut oil on that area and comb it until the slime is gone.
